Provost
The Provost – also known as Vice President of Academic Affairs – leads the University’s academic programs, including both teaching and research.
The Provost ensures that the members of faculty provide students with the best possible education using the “American style” of pedagogy to inspire the students to critically analyze the information presented to them, not only for its content but also for its context and applicability toward their career of interest. AUN has no higher goal than to provide students with the knowledge and skills to excel in their chosen professions, and to achieve leadership positions that will expand their influence toward a better Nigeria, Africa and world.
The Provost also leads AUN’s research community, which is uniquely focused on Africa’s development challenges such as poverty, resource deterioration, pollution, disenfranchisement of women and other undeserved parties in society, and limited access to information technology. AUN’s researchers, who hail from all over the world, are developing new broadband technology, better infrastructure for entrepreneurship, improved marketing and communication strategies, and innovative products that produce wealth from waste
AUN’s research is also uniquely framed to engage undergraduates in the process of reviewing literature, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing technical articles for publication in respected journals. All students perform senior research projects, but many choose to starting working with professors early on to identify a research topic of interest and conduct research of publishable scholarly interest.
Whether through teaching or research, the Provost’s office fosters a culture of mentoring. Our faculty sees each student as a possible agent of positive change in a needy Nigeria -a nation confronted by challenges and yet brimming with opportunities. The Provost and faculty consider it a privilege to work with our students and guide them toward roles in society that are successful, influential, and deeply rewarding.
